Political Cartoon Competition
Artists are defenders of human rights.
They are voices of hope, courage and resilience!
Covid-19 has impacted severely on the arts sector and on the livelihoods of artists.
Across several places on the globe, artists have been further challenged by incompetent administration of temporary relief support, political inaptitude and corruption.
The Artfluence Human Rights Festival calls on image-makers to use the power of creativity to submit a cartoon that comments on the current crisis in the arts sector.
The winning cartoon will win R5 000.
The audience choice will win R1 000.
Brief: The submissions must address how even amidst various challenges, artists remain voices of hope, courage, resilience.
Requirements:
- Cartoons to be digitally rendered or hand-drawn then scanned.
- Cartoons to be digitally submitted in .jpg format (PDFs will also be accepted) in square dimensions.
- Cartoons should establish the narrative in a single panel (No multi-panel comic strips).
Rules:
- The competition is open to any any South African resident over the age of 18.
- An entrant may submit a maximum of two cartoons for the competition
- The entrant must provide the following information along with the cartoon but on a separate page:
- Title of the cartoon
- A brief narrative about how the cartoon addresses the theme: Artists: Voices of Hope, Courage & Resilience
- Name of entrant
- Age of entrant
- Place
- Email address of entrant
- Telephone number
- Entries shortlisted by the Artfluence Human Rights Festival will be shared across the festival’s social media pages.
- The winning entries will be announced on the final day of the Artfluence festival.
- The top 10 cartoons will be featured in the Artfluence festival programme on Saturday 8 May 2021.
- The judges’ decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into with submitters.
- Entries must be sent by email to artfluence@isupportdoyou.com and must be received no later than 17:00 on 30 April 2021.
