The year 2020 saw many cancellations of events due to the restrictions and regulations placed on public gatherings caused by Covid-19. This saw many organisations & artists lose their income and investments and consequently, re-evaluate their year plans.
While many saw online platforms as the perfect escape boat from the sinking ship, the solution kept only the vastly followed afloat. And even with the success of the few, the online pipeline is very narrow and allows only so many to benefit from what would’ve been an opportunity for an entire team to make a living.
Like many, The Cape Town Jazz Festival decided to postpone the 2020 festival to the year 2021, with hopes that by the time the new year emerges, the pandemic will have atleast subsided. This however wasn’t the case as the virus developed a second strain that made matters worse. It came to no surprise that eventually the 2021 Festival became postponed as well to 2022, adding more insult to injury.
The festival organisers posted on their website “The health and safety of everyone involved with the festival is of paramount importance. It is for this reason that we have decided to postpone the festival to 2022. We trust that our valued sponsors, corporate clients and festinos will stand with us in caution and solidarity to play our part in minimizing the spread of this virus.”
“While the road to CTIJF 2022 will be a long one, it will not be without the joy and nostalgia jazz music brings. We have been working hard behind the scenes to bring brand new series of online events and smaller live jazz experiences throughout 2021. JazzFix will be formally launched early in the new year. The online shows present footage of some of the festival’s greatest moments and shows exclusively performed at the festival over the past 20 years, which includes interviews with artists who performed! The shows promise to be the perfect”
The JazzFix will definetely serve as a silver lining for those who were looking forward to seeing some of the countries best artists live. One of the first few shows will include Jonathan Butler and host Unathi on the 27th of February, for just R80.
