Tjipo Malankan | "Matter - Of Time" Music Initiative 2021 Artists

Earlier this year, New Age Artistry embarked on a journey with ubiquity(u.creativespace) to bring you an initiative that sets to uncover South Africa’s emerging talents in the music industry. The annual “Matter – Of Time” initiative consists of two phases with one being a release of the compilation “Matter Mixtape” on the 8th of March. The 2nd phase of the initiative will see all the artists who are part of the compilation Mixtape officially come together to release an album titled “Of Time” set to drop on the 4th of July. Today we’re proud to introduce to you a participant in this years’ initiative who goes by the name Tjipo Malankan

Bringing a soul kasi rap sound on the Matter Mixtape Vol.1 is Tjipo Malankan who’s 3 songs “Okwamanje”, Micotevi Love Life and Born This Way taken from his latest release Okwamanje Mixtape add a unique feature to the project. His lyricism and witty lines brew up a rare formula that has listeners begging for more.

About Tjipo Malankan

Sipho is a 24 year old fine artist who is also a musician (most likely a rapper) based in Pretoria, currently a 3rd year student at TUT Arts campus, and volunteering in a curatorship program at the Pretoria art museum. He specialises in both printmaking and Sculpture. He started exploring with different materials and surfaces, while I also write music based on everyday life.

Born in Gauteng, Alexandra then moved to Limpopo to his mother’s family, Tjipo then came to Pretoria to start being involved in the art world. With discipline from a township and a rural area he got to enjoy working with how people from both places perceive reality. He also get to explore different human behavior as he visited different places to perform my music.

Artist Statement
“My artwork concentrates on social, political and cultural issues mostly stimulated by propaganda of the government. These themes I use to express our life styles as puppets, strike as war between cops and those who are striking, and how we get to follow without questioning reason for it. With use of a television as a subject matter, it is meant to relate to the public as it is an everyday life tool to learn good and bad things. So as I’ve been influence by the television, I decided to use digital art, sculpture, and silkscreen printing to produce art tackling such an issue.”
